​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Island Hoops Basketball Society ("IHBS") is a non-profit society that creates and amplifies opportunities for women and genderqueer people to build community around basketball on or near lək̓ʷəŋən lands (also known as Victoria, BC).

our history


july 2023

Players in the Victoria Women’s Basketball League started trying to find somewhere to play basketball during the summer off-season. As a result, Tuesday Drop-in Basketball is born!

may 2024

A member of our basketball community becomes the first person ever to reserve the outdoor basketball courts at Crystal Pool and Fitness Centre, and creates Summer Outdoor Hoops.

july 2024

Island Hoops Basketball Society is incorporated as a not-for-profit society in response to a quickly growing community of basketball enthusiasts. 


november 2025

The first annual Queer Hoops Jamboree occurred, Island Hoop's first event!
Island Hoops also purchased the Victoria Women’s Basketball League, a 3x3 league, effective January 1, 2025 - this becomes Sunday 3X3 League and includes our Referee Training Program.
